The New England Fishery Management Council (Council) seeks candidates for the position of Fishery Specialist/Analyst with skills in economic analyses and management information systems (MIS). The specialist/analyst will assist in the preparation of fishery management plans and assist the Council staff in contracting for MIS services and accessing fishery data bases.

The two components of the position are broken down as follows.
Fishery-Related Responsibilities and Qualifications
Responsibilities – 75%
- Assist in the preparation of documents, including Environmental Impact Statements for fishery management plans/amendments and other related documents
- Compile and analyze fisheries, environmental, biological, socio-economic, or other technical data using appropriate database and statistical analysis software
- Develop economic analyses of fishery management alternatives
- Work collaboratively with others involved in fisheries management, including stakeholders, fisheries scientists, economists, and social scientists
- Prepare meeting summaries and assist in the conduct of public meetings
Qualifications
- Knowledge or experience in the management and economics of fisheries in federal waters
Management Information Systems Responsibilities and Qualifications
Responsibilities – 25%
- Assist the Council’s technical staff in accessing data from federal and state data providers
- Serve as the Council’s technical representative with information technology (IT) contractors
- Assist in development of IT policy and management issues
- Manage hardware and software acquisition and licensing
- Assist staff in identifying needs and solutions for data analysis
Qualifications:
- Experience with IT management
- Ability to clearly and concisely articulate problems, options, and recommended solutions to IT utilization questions, policy implementation, and IT purchases
- Outstanding ability to clearly and concisely communicate verbally and in emails with staff on IT issues
- Broad awareness of IT risks and exposures, curiosity to explore new approaches and technologies
