Monkfish Research Set-Aside Working Group

During its December 2022 meeting, the New England Fishery Management Council adopted a 2023 priority to form a working group to review and develop measures to improve the Monkfish Research Set-Aside (RSA) Program’s effectiveness.

Under the Council’s directive, the working group will:

• Evaluate the findings and recommendations of the Council’s broader 2019 RSA Program Review and determine which, if any, should be further considered in the Monkfish RSA Program;

• Revisit the use of RSA days-at-sea (DAS) and the ability to flip to a directed RSA DAS while at sea; and

• Form a working group of fishermen, NOAA and Council staff, Monkfish Committee members, and others as needed to discuss the Monkfish RSA Program and identify potential improvements.
